I am starting my 31st year teaching high school students which includes my 22nd. year at Apache Junction High. I was given the task of developing the new Health and Wellness class this year and I will be teaching it switching to the Physical Education Department.   I have my B.S. from the University of New Mexico(1989)and my M.A. from Western New Mexico University (1993).  I am certified in the following areas by the state of Arizona:  Social Studies K-12 (Highly Qualified Political Science and History), Physical Education K-12, and Special Education K-12 (SLD, ED, MIMR). I am currently a member of the 9th grade Professional Learning Community at A.J.H.S. I am also the director for Apex Online Government.  My students have enjoyed my class and have commented that they learned alot and had fun doing it.  While at the University of New Mexico I was a three year letter-man for baseball with two of our teams qualifying for the Regional tourney. My 1984 team was ranked 17th in the Nation (42-17) and still hold the record for most wins in a season at my college.  I  played mens fastpitch since I graduated high school and our 2001 Phoenix team took 12th in the NAFA world tourney in Salem, Oregon. I was the head baseball coach at Gallup High School in Gallup, New Mexico from 1994-1997 being part of  two teams to state.  I am the head softball coach for the Lady Prospectors going on my 12th year.  We were State 4A  qualifiers in 2006, 2007,  2008, 2016 , 2017 , 2018 and 2019 making it to the Final six round in 2018.  I was selected the Black Canyon Region Coach of the Year for 2017 and 2018 thanks to our girls going undefeated in power points games (36-0) and 51-12 overall for a 4th and 2nd place in state ranking. In June of 2010, I was the head coach of  the 4A Arizona South Softball All Stars and we defeated the North 5-1!!!     I love sports, current events, and my five telescopes ranging from my 4.5 inch all the way to my 12.5 inch monster that we use at the dark skies with the East Valley Astronomy club.  I love to stay fit with swimming, wt. training, golf (11 handicap) and racket ball. I love NFL football (Cardinals and Chargers) and  I am also active member of my church.  My wife is Mrs. Candyce Matlosz who also teaches English at Apache Junction High School.  We will have our 26th Anniversity on August 7th!!   We have two cats and some giant fish.  I was named Head Boys Golf coach for 2017 after serving three years as the assistant coach and look forward to the season and practice.   We will field a full boys team this year and we have got a full team now for Girls golf also.
